This 12-month program is based on Marsha Linehan’s Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills Group Program (DBT). The goals are to provide you with skills to help tolerate intense feelings and learn to manage self-harming behaviours building a life worth living. The 4 modules of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness are taught within the first 6 months of the program with the modules then repeated.
Throughout this program you will participate in group sessions lead by two qualified Allied Health Professionals. Participants will be supported to learn practical skills in order to better accept who you are, build skills to regulate emotions and to improve interpersonal relationships. You will practice applying skills throughout the week through homework and bring what you have learnt and experienced to each group for feedback and input.
Understanding Mindfulness – learn to be self-aware and in the present moment. Develop mindfulness skills to better respond to difficult situations.
Distress Tolerance – learn and develop skills to manage your emotions rather than using harmful behaviours when in emotional crisis.
Emotional Regulation – gain a better understanding of emotions and learn skills to recognise yours and have more control over them.
Interpersonal Effectiveness – learn key communication skills to strengthen current relationships and build new ones. You will learn to establish healthy boundaries while respecting your needs and the needs of others.
