When we celebrated Robina Private Hospital's first birthday, there were only a handful of staff and a couple of patients gathered around the cake. It was a modest celebration, but even then there was a sense that we were building something special.
Ten years later, finding enough space for everyone to celebrate was a very different challenge.
As I looked around at our 10th birthday celebrations, I was struck not only by how much the hospital has grown, but by the incredible people who have made that growth possible. What began as a small team with a shared vision has evolved into a thriving community of patients, staff, doctors and healthcare professionals who continue to make Robina Private Hospital a remarkable place to receive care and to work.
Over the past decade, we've seen extraordinary growth. Every area of the hospital is now bustling, from our inpatient wards and day programs to Hospital in the Home, doctors' consulting suites and day surgery services. We've expanded our programs and embraced innovation to better meet the needs of our community.
Today, Robina Private Hospital is proud to offer specialised services including eating disorder treatment programs, older persons mental health services, Hospital in the Home, robotic therapy and innovative treatments for depression. These services have grown in response to the needs of our patients and the dedication of our clinical teams, who continually strive to deliver the very best care possible.
While I am incredibly proud of these achievements, the story of Robina Private Hospital has never really been about growth in numbers or the introduction of new services.
It's about people.
To our patients, past and present, thank you.
Many people come to us during some of the most challenging periods of their lives. You have trusted us to support you, care for you and walk alongside you in your recovery journey. That trust is something we never take lightly. It is both a privilege and a responsibility, and it remains at the heart of everything we do.
I would also like to thank the doctors who have partnered with us over the past decade. Your expertise, commitment and belief in our hospital have helped shape the services we provide today and have transformed countless lives along the way.
And to our staff, none of this happens without you.
From the very beginning, our goal wasn't simply to build a hospital. We wanted to build a place where people genuinely cared for one another. A place where individuals felt supported, where professional growth mattered, and where colleagues felt less like co-workers and more like family.
Over the years, I have watched teams come together through challenges, celebrate successes and support each other during difficult times. I've seen extraordinary dedication, compassion and resilience. Most importantly, I've seen a culture develop that makes people proud to come to work each day.
I genuinely believe that culture shines through in the care we provide.
It's reflected in the nurse who takes extra time with a patient, the allied health clinician who helps someone achieve a breakthrough in their recovery, the administration staff who make people feel welcome from the moment they arrive, and the countless acts of kindness that happen each day behind the scenes.
These moments don't appear in annual reports or milestone statistics, but they are the true measure of who we are.
Looking back, it is remarkable to see how far we have come since opening our doors to our very first patient ten years ago. What started as a small hospital with big aspirations has become a trusted provider of mental health care for the Gold Coast and beyond. Yet despite our growth, the things that matter most have remained unchanged: compassion, respect, teamwork and a commitment to helping people live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
And we're not finished yet.
Standing still has never been our style. As we look towards the future, we remain committed to growing, innovating and finding new ways to support the changing needs of our patients and community. There is much more to come, and I am excited for the next chapter of Robina Private Hospital.
To every patient, staff member, doctor, referrer, family member and community partner who has been part of our journey, thank you.
The past 10 years have been an incredible story of care, connection and community. I am grateful to have shared it with you.
Here's to the next 10 years.
