Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD)

Transcranial magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression.

TMS is typically used when other depression treatments haven’t been effective. TMS involved stimulation of an area of your brain using a pulsing magnet placed on your scalp. The magnet is designed to give a focused beam of magnetic energy inducing small electrical currents with the aim of altering brain function for therapeutic purposes.

TMS works by changing the brain electrical activity and the brain chemicals that are involved in controlling mood.

Robotic-Assisted Rehabilitation Therapy

Robina Private Hospital offers highly intensive, focused and motivating robotic-assisted rehabilitation for patients with neurological and mobility-related conditions.

Led by Dr Jom Jiao, Director of Rehabilitation, the program enhances traditional rehabilitation by increasing the number of repetitions during therapy—key to achieving faster and more effective recovery outcomes.

Key features:

  • Combines robotics, virtual reality and gamification to engage patients both physically and cognitively.
  • Targets conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, and Multiple Sclerosis.
  • Focuses on three essential components: intensity, dose and motivation.
  • Helps patients and therapists optimise therapy outcomes regardless of location or phase of recovery.

This innovative approach is designed to accelerate recovery, improve mobility, and support long-term rehabilitation goals through personalised, evidence-based care.
