About Project Art Evening

This 8-session therapy program encourages participants to engage in creative activities to explore, discover and reflect on a range of wellbeing themes. Art therapy provides the opportunity to express and share inner experiences in a visual way and acquire healthy creative outlets for emotions. Art Therapy can lead to enhanced wellbeing and self-care, increased self-awareness and understanding as well as discovering new perspectives.
 

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • You would like to learn a new skill to change the way you feel.
  • You have difficulty with talk based therapies.
  • You have been feeling stuck in a cycle difficult emotions and would like this to change.
  • There are a lot of stressors in your life and you are not sure how you can keep balancing them all.

What you will experience

Throughout this program you will participate in group sessions lead by a qualified Art Therapist. No previous experience with art making is required and you do not need to describe yourself as artistic or creative in any way to participate. You will be supported through creative directives aimed to express, reflect and gain insight into your experiences. As a group, you have opportunity to share what you have learnt and experienced throughout.

Treatment objectives

Objective 1

Learn to understand and express your emotions using different art materials and activities.

Objective 2

Learn how to self-soothe by engaging different senses in the creative process.

Objective 3

Learn how to use mindfulness in the creative process to reduce stress, reduce anxiety and improve mood.

Objective 4

Gain a deeper understanding of yourself through the expressive process while learning to welcome in self-compassion.

How to get started

For you to access this program, we need a valid referral from a medical practitioner to a psychiatrist with admission rights to Robina Private Hospital. Referrals can be sent via our website, www.robinaprivate.com.au, or directly to the private practice. General enquiries about this program can be made by calling 07 5665 5100.

How much does it cost?

Participants are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. Privately paying is also an option. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with Robina Private Hospital by calling 07 5665 5100.

Who will find this program helpful?

People recovering from a mental illness such as anxiety, bipolar disorder or depression will find this program to be useful in addressing their individual clinical needs.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

This treatment is designed to be completed within 8 weeks. Participants attend every Thursday from 3:00pm to 6:30pm. Refreshments are provided. The treatment can be started any week of the year and is for admitted patients only.
