Referral Process for mental health support

To be seen by one of our qualified psychologists, a mental health care plan must be completed by your GP and sent to us for processing.

Referral Information

Please address referrals to Robina Private Specialty Clinic, so that we can carefully select the psychologist best placed to meet your patient’s needs. Alternatively, please nominate a preferred psychologist from our team on the referral to refer to directly.

Mental Health Care Plan

A Medicare rebate is available to individuals who have been referred with a Mental Health Care Plan from their General Practitioner or Specialist under the Better Access to Mental Health Initiative.

Initially, the client will be eligible for a Medicare rebate for six psychology sessions, after which, a follow-up appointment with the referring doctor for review is required. If deemed appropriate by the referring doctor, a further four sessions may be accessible under the Mental Health Care Plan.

Under a Mental Health Care Plan, clients will be able to claim a Medicare rebate for a partial amount of each of the ten sessions in a calendar year, with a gap fee also payable as an out of pocket cost. Please contact the Robina Private Specialty Clinic to find out the applicable Medicare rebate and out of pocket cost.

Self-Funded and Private Health Insurance

If a client does not hold a Mental Health Care Plan, or if the ten sessions have been completed under their Plan for the year, they will need to pay for sessions as a self-funded patient. This means that they will need to pay for the full amount of the session at the end of each appointment. Please contact our friendly team to discuss any applicable fee.

If the client holds private health extras/ancillary insurance, they may be eligible for a partial refund of the session amount depending on their level of private health fund cover. Please contact the health fund to inquire about eligibility.
