Treatment for Eating Disorders

Most people sense that something needs to change in their life, that they cannot go on living with the restrictions that an eating disorder puts on their lives; but thinking about making a change and possibly breaking free from the disorder can also seem terrifying and for some, unimaginable.

Robina Private Hospital's Eating Disorder Service offers a tailored approach for patients to select treatment intensity and level of care. Through a comprehensive continuity of care from outpatient to inpatient and community care the service aims to bridge the gap between different treatment settings, ensuring a smooth transition for patients. All the eating disorder programs are designed with dignity, compassion, and respect in mind, and incorporate the experiences of those who have been through eating disorders. Their goal is to help patients reconnect with their recovery journey.

Eating Disorder Collaborative Care Skills

When caring for a loved one with an eating disorder, it's important to understand that it's a mental illness, not a personal choice. No one is to blame – the complex interplay of genetics, environment, and social pressures often contributes to its development. While maintaining a compassionate and supportive relationship can be challenging, it's critical for your loved one's recovery. Studies have shown that strong social support networks are linked to better treatment outcomes and reduced relapse rates.

This 3-session program, totalling 6 hours, equips you with the tools to navigate this difficult journey. You'll learn and practice essential skills like establishing clear and empathetic communication, collaborating with your loved one to solve problems, and managing your own self-care to avoid burnout. By fostering a safe and supportive environment, you can help reduce their psychological distress, emotional burden, and ultimately contribute to a healthier and happier life for both of you.
