Men's Health Week 2021

Despite making up more than three quarters of deaths by suicide in Australia, a quarter of men say they would not seek help from anyone for their mental health concerns.

Let’s change this.

Men's Health Week is celebrated annually from 14-20 June. The internationally recognised week of significance provides an opportunity for communities around the world to highlight men's health and what it means to be healthy.

With COVID-19 continuing to impact the way we live, work and socialize, it’s more important than ever for Australian men to be reaching out and seeking support when needed.

Let’s encourage the men in our lives to share what they are experiencing and let them know that it’s not a sign of weakness – it’s a sign of strength – to open up about their general health, wellbeing or any mental health concerns including: depression, anxiety or loneliness.

MEN’S HEALTH IS ABOUT WELLNESS - NOT JUST ILLNESS

Focusing on men's wellness, not just illness reinforces the idea that men’s health is not just about male specific pathology in prostate cancer, fertility etc, nor just about the negative sociology of maleness associated with male suicide, men’s failure to commit in relationships, etc.

A man’s health is also about: - promoting healthier lives for men

- fostering networks research that supports men’s health; and

- building on achievements already made

We all have a part to play in supporting the health and wellbeing of the men around us. Here are some helpful tips to take action this Men’s Health Week!
