Medical Advisory Committee
Part of the governance structure, our Medical Advisory Committee ensures clinical services, procedures and interventions are provided by competent medical practitioners.
Our Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) has representatives from each specialty group and consists of:
- Chief Executive Officer
- Chairperson of the Medical Advisory Committee
- Director of Medical Services
- Representatives from the following specialist groups:
- Psychiatrists
- Physicians
- General Practitioners
- Surgeons
- Anaesthetist
The committee is also supported by an Executive Assistant. Meetings are held quarterly and members are elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Heidi Smith
Medical Advisory Committee Member, Robina Private Hospital CEO
Heidi Smith has held various healthcare nursing and management positions across both primary and specialist services. Heidi joined Robina Private Hospital during the opening stages in 2016 and held the previous role of Chief Operating Officer.
Dr Saveena Singh
Medical Advisory Committee Chairperson, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Saveena Singh is a consultant psychiatrist with special interest in the area of women’s health, which includes perinatal psychiatry including prescribing in pregnancy and breastfeeding, menstrual and perimenopausal mood disorders, substance use issues, trauma, depression and anxiety disorders. She also has an interest in youth mental health and general adult psychiatry with expertise in a wide range of psychopathology.
Dr Singh completed her medical degree in South Africa and then completed her Masters in Clinical Psychiatry in the UK, where she spent more than eight years working in the NHS.
She moved to Australia where she completed her Fellowship in Psychiatry and now works as a consultant psychiatrist on the Gold Coast.
Dr Penny King
Medical Advisory Committee Member, Medical Director, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Penny King is the Director of Medical Services and Director of Older Person’s Mental Health at Robina Private Hospital. Dr King has been associated with Aurora Health since 2008, Director of Older Person’s Mental Health since 2013 and a member of the Medical Advisory Committee since that time.
Over the past 10 years Dr King has led the development of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, Older Person’s Mental Health service that includes a memory clinic, inpatient care and day patient programmes. These programmes were recognised with a Clinical Excellence Award from the Australian Private Hospitals Association.
She is a principal investigator for the national Australian Dementia Network (ADNeT) Clinical Quality Registry project and is a participant in the ADNeT national Memory Clinics Initiative.
Dr King holds a senior lecturer title at Griffiths University and convenes a local collaborative interest and education group for health care professionals who care for older people.
Dr Vinay Garbharran
Medical Advisory Committee Member, Director of Eating Disorders, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Vinay Garbharran has been associated with Robina Private Hospital since 2017. He has his private practice located here, as well as being instrumental in setting up the Eating Disorder Service that includes In-Patient and Day Patient programs. He has also served on the Medical Advisory Committee since 2017 in his capacity as Director of Eating Disorders, assisting in clinical governance in particular around Eating Disorder services provided by the hospital.
Dr Peter Vidgen
Medical Advisory Committee Member, General Practitioner
Dr Peter Vidgen was born and bred in Toowoomba, but spent many of his formative years on the Gold Coast mainly with Surf Life Saving Clubs Pacific, Currumbin and Surfers Paradise. Dr Vidgen completed his Medical Degree at the University of Queensland in 1970 and following this, worked at the Princess Alexander Hospital as a Resident then Medical Registrar.
Since 1999, Dr Vidgen has managed the medical services for Healthe Care's Currumbin Clinic on the southern Gold Coast, along with several other very capable Medical Practitioners. He also supports the medical services of Robina Private Hospital.
Dr Allen Lim
Medical Advisory Committee Member, Gastroentorologist
Dr Allen Lim is a Gastroentorologist who specialises in dealing with a broad variety of gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
Dr Lim has practiced on the Gold Coast since 2006, and now offers private practice clinic consultations and day procedures at Robina Private Hospital. He specialises in Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and Capsule Endoscopy.
He graduated with Honours from Monash University, Melbourne in 1996.
He spent his Internship year at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Resident year at the Royal Hobart Hospital before completing his specialist training in Auckland, New Zealand.
Dr Lim also spent a Fellowship year attached to the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit where he was also involved in hepatitis and liver cancer research.
Dr Lim is a No Gap Provider with all major health funds.
